This is the first event of its kind to recognize the best coffees from Rwanda and set a new standard for specialty coffee in the region.
Why is Rwanda the new star of specialty coffee?
When it comes to the best coffees in the world, Rwanda already holds a leading position. During the Best of Rwanda 2024 online auction, we saw coffees from the region being sold at record prices. Coffee from Gikumbi County reached an impressive $71.8 per kilo – 14 times the average price of coffees outside the top 18 of the competition. The total amount of coffee sold exceeded 6,600 kg, with total sales worth more than $165,000.
These figures are no accident. Rwanda has established itself as one of the top destinations for specialty coffee thanks to its rich soil, high altitudes and innovative farming practices by local farmers. At DABOV Specialty Coffee, we actively support these efforts by committing to work with farmers who put passion and dedication into coffee production.
Bulgaria’s participation in the auction
Seven countries participated in the Best of Rwanda 2024 auction – Bulgaria, Greece, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the USA and the UK. This means that Bulgaria is one of the few countries where the best coffee from Rwanda will be drunk. We are proud to say that 6% of the best coffee will come to Bulgaria thanks to our participation. DABOV Specialty Coffee will bring this unique product to Bulgarian specialty coffee lovers.
Mahembe Coffee – sustainability and quality
The farm we purchased our coffee from is Mahembe Coffee, run by Justin Musabyimana. He founded the company in 2010 with the clear aim of developing sustainable farming and supporting the local community. Mahembe grows red bourbon coffees, known for their complex flavours and pronounced acidity.
Mahembe Coffee owns three farms, Gituntu, Murondo and Gatare, located at altitudes between 1,700 and 2,100 metres. Our new coffee comes from Nyarubuye Washing Station, which features strict quality control. Only spring water is used and the processing process is “fully washed” – one of the best techniques for preserving the natural flavours of coffee.

Our coffee hunter Jordan Dabov, recognized as one of the leading experts in the world of specialty coffee, was part of the international jury of “Best of Rwanda 2024”. He personally took part in judging the best coffees from the region and helped select the winners. This role of his is a confirmation of our commitment to quality and our desire to discover the best coffees in the world.
